Jun 25, 2018 · The internet icon has a red cross on it and it cant 'see' wifi connections. I checked the network adapters as most of the solution for this problem include uninstalling the wifi adapter driver then restarting the pc. However, I can surf the Internet, and I have more than one network connection sometimes. Why would this red cross mark show on the network icon? It can be analyzed from several aspects. Generally, checking the network cable or the computer connection is the first thing we can do. Since it's okay to get online, these two conditions should be fine.

May 21, 2009 · Yes, the red x Network icon in your system tray indicates a connection that is not being used. Since your PC is connecting fine to the internet and your home network, more than likely you have more than one possible network connection available for use. I would not think it indicates a possible mobo failure. The color of the lights indicates the connection speed to the router or modem. You could manipulate the lights somewhat by hard setting the link speed and duplex from Device Manager, properties of the NIC, on the advanced tab. Try changing the values to 10MB/Full Duplex or something, and watch how the lights change. Check here to skip this screen and always use HTML Access. In the Network Connections window, Wireless Network Connection shows a red X and says Not Connected. In the device manager, the Atheros driver is listed under Network Adapters. Also, in the Atheros Client Utility, I can see the available wireless network to connect. Must have internet connection and live in an area with Verizon reception.
